US Airways has provided further details about its planned elimination of 1,000 jobs.

In its latest employee newsletter, US Airways says a total 200 pilot positions - 165 from pre-merger US Airways and 35 from pre-merger America West - will be cut.

The airline, which merged with America West in 2005, will also trim 150 flight attendant posts. Roughly 600 airport passenger service and ramp employee jobs will also be eliminated.

Meanwhile, US Airways Express service operated by Mesa Airlines between Colorado Springs, Colorado and Phoenix will end when US Airways closes its Colorado Springs station on 4 January.

The cancellation of four daily regional jet flights is part of US Airways' overall network alignment, which will be introduced next year as the carrier places more emphasis on its hubs in Phoenix, Charlotte and Philadelphia and its focus city of Washington, DC.
