US Airways next week will take delivery of its first Embraer 190, after several weeks of delay.

The aircraft “will officially become the newest member of the US Airways fleet when the first 99-seater arrives in Charlotte”, says the airline in a message to employees.

It will mark the first delivery in the airline’s firm order of 25 E-190s.

US Airways says the aircraft will serve niche markets “that are too large for a regional jet, but don’t quite have the demand of a Boeing 737 or Airbus A319”.

Service will begin February 11 on medium-haul routes, such from Philadelphia to Bradley International Airport near Hartford, Connecticut; Boston; Dallas/Fort Worth; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Providence, Rhode Island, it adds.

An official dedication ceremony will be held on January 4.
