Era, the US flight tracking and surveillance firm known until recently as Rannoch, has named Fred Messina VP of corporate development.

Messina joins the Virginia-based company from Sensis where he was VP of strategic programs. During his 22 year career Messina has also worked for Hughes Aircraft and eventually Raytheon.

“Mr Messina is an industry-recognized leader in air traffic management systems and network-centric operations applications,” says Era in a statement.

Adds Messina: “I am delighted to be a part of Era’s vision for next-generation surveillance for civil aviation and military solutions. Era’s innovative research and development, along with proven delivery, make it uniquely well-positioned to execute and grow in markets that are ripe for change and renewal.

“Era’s multilateration and ADS-B [automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast] solutions for both the civil and military sectors perfectly align with this future direction.”
