Members of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are examining an air traffic control incident of an aircraft with US First Lady Michelle Obama onboard aborting an attempt to land at Andrews Air Force Base.

The incident occurred at 17:00EST on 18 April. The military version of the Boeing 737 carrying Obama was directed to abort its landing attempt after minimum required separation between the narrowbody and a C-17 military aircraft landing ahead of it was compromised.

NTSB states the incident involved FAA air traffic controllers at the Potomac terminal radar approach control (Tracon) in Virginia and at the Andrews tower in Maryland.
