US start-up Skybus Airlines has inaugurated its no-frills service from Port Columbus International Airport.

A Skybus spokesman confirms the carrier’s first Airbus A319 flight had an on-time departure this morning.

An airport water cannon salute commemorated the first flight, which is scheduled to arrive in Burbank near Los Angeles in about an hour.

Service to Kansas City and the Boston area through Portsmouth International Airport in New Hampshire will launch this evening.

Skybus has modeled itself on Irish budget carrier Ryanair’s bare-bones service model.
