Sukhoi Superjet sales to Mexican carrier Interjet are being financed by an international consortium led by Vnesheconombank (VEB), with backing from export credit agencies.

The Russian state-owned bank says the first commercial loan toward funding 20 Superjets ordered by Interjet was issued on 19 December.

To date, Interjet has taken delivery of four of the regional airliners. Finance covering further deliveries will be released in the first quarter of 2014, says VEB.

Under a tripartite agreement, the syndicated loan facility is backed by guarantees from the Italian and French export credit agencies SACE and COFACE.

French bank Natixis has been mandated to act as an agent.
