Venezuela's Laser, one of the few remaining privately-owned airlines, will launch thrice daily flights from its Caracas base to the eastern Venezuelan city of Barcelona.
It will begin the service on 9 September, using Boeing MD-82 aircraft. Laser hopes to transport up to 300,000 passengers annually on the route, it says.
Smaller domestic carriers in Venezuela are hurting, due to competition from state-owned Conviasa and Aeropostal as well as the lack of access to foreign currencies. Venezuela's domestic carriers operate one of the oldest fleets in the world.
