Vienna Airport has reported a 23.6% year-on-year increase in April passenger traffic to 1.7 million.

However, comparison figures for April 2010 were negatively impacted by the volcanic ash cloud which shut down much of Europe's airspace for nearly a week.

Eastern European and Western European traffic showed the most significant rises, increasing by 36% and 29.3%, respectively. Passenger traffic to the Middle East grew by 20%.

Flight movements at the airport rose by 10.3% to 20,261, while transfer passenger figures increased by 20.6%. Cargo traffic also grew 0.3% to 25,600t.
