Virgin America to enter crowded San Francisco-San Diego market

Virgin America will compete with Southwest Airlines and United Airlines when it launches service between its home base of San Francisco International Airport and San Diego International Airport on February 12.

The Airbus A320/A319 operator initially will offer thrice daily service, increasing to five daily flights on March 9.

Southwest and United currently link San Francisco and San Diego, using Boeing 737-700 aircraft and 737-500 aircraft, respectively.
