Threats of a strike by pilots at Virgin Atlantic appear to be receding after UK cockpit union BALPA agreed to ballot members on a new offer.

BALPA has not disclosed details of the offer but general secretary Jim McAuslan said the union had "lifted the threat of strike action".

Virgin pilots had voted in favour of a strike in June. McAuslan said the crews "have never wished to inconvenience the travelling public".
