Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin service between Leon, Mexico, and Los Angeles.

The airline will operate Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft on the route, it says in its filing with the DOT.

Volaris will compete against United Airlines on the route, schedules in Innovata show.

In addition, Delta Air Lines received DOT approval to operate the route in June.

Separately, Volaris says that it will begin its Guadalajara-Phoenix service on 19 October with thrice-weekly flights on the route. The airline has already secured DOT approvals to begin the service.
