Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for the authority to fly from Morelia to Chicago-Midway.
The carrier said in its filing with the DOT that it "plans to commence service on this route shortly after the approval of this application" with A319 or A320 aircraft.
Volaris currently flies once daily from Chicago-Midway to Guadalajara with its A319s, according to the Innovata database.
Midway is one of the busiest airports for Volaris partner Southwest Airlines. Last month, Southwest announced that the partnership, launched last year, had expanded to include Volaris flights to Guadalajara from Chicago-Midway and Las Vegas. As a result, more Southwest destinations gained connections to Mexico.
