Panasonic Avionics is introducing entry-level in-flight entertainment solutions as part of its X Series product line.

The company's new audio-on-demand passenger control unit (AOD-PCU) and high-definition digital overhead monitors (DOM) are on display this week at the annual World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) conference and exhibition in Palm Springs, California.

"The AOD-PCU delivers an affordable solution that is sleek, durable and reliable," says Panasonic, noting that the system offers "a high-resolution display that provides branding opportunities to the airline with familiar controls and navigation found in today's most popular personal media devices". The AOD-PCU can also interact with overhead video displays for gaming and surveys.

Panasonic's new high-definition DOM, meanwhile, is an Ethernet-based digital overhead display available in both wall-mount and retractable form-factors "providing the ultimate in shared visual entertainment and attractive cabin interior design", says Panasonic.

The products also provide an upgrade path to Panasonic's premium product options.

New premium in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) solutions for the X Series product line include a 32in high-definition LCD monitor - for which Panasonic has already secured customers - and a high-definition premium seat electronics box. Panasonic's exclusive Karma touch-screen handset, which features in-flight entertainment and communications (IFEC), meal ordering functionality and other capabilities.

"At Panasonic, our primary goal has always been to delight the passenger with our products," says Paul Margis, Panasonic Avionics' chief executive.

"By combining Panasonic's industry-leading High-Definition technology into our X Series product line, we have created an experience that, in many cases, exceeds what passengers are accustomed to on the ground."
