WestJet Encore has received its air operator's certificate from Transport Canada, clearing the way for it to launch service on 24 June.
"This certification is the result of many months of hard work by many WestJetters to create this airline from the ground up, and I am incredibly proud of our team. Because of them, we now have our license to operate, our first two aircraft and the first group of WestJetters hired and ready to launch on June 24," says WestJet Encore president Ferio Pugliese.
WestJet Encore received its first Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 in Toronto on 6 June, the first aircraft out of its 20 firm orders. It is scheduled to receive a second Q400 later this month, out of a total of seven deliveries in 2013. The carrier will begin service in Western Canada on 24 June.
WestJet Encore's Q400s are configured with 78 seats in a 2-2 layout.
