WestJet Encore will add service between Nanaimo, British Columbia, and Calgary as well as between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Naniamo joins Fort St. John in the first round of new communities that Encore will fly to withing Canada with its new 78-seat Bombardier Q400s.
On 24 June, Encore service between Calgary-Fort St John, Fort St. John-Vancouver, Vancouver-Victoria and Calgary-Nanaimo flights will begin. On 25 June, Victoria-Vancouver, Vancouver-Fort St. John and Fort St. John-Calgary flights will commence.
WestJet Encore will receive two Q400s in June 2013 and plans to expand its domestic routes as it takes delivery of the 20 Q400s it has on order. It plans to receive five more of the type by the end of the year. The carrier also has 25 options for delivery from 2014 to 2018.
"We are just getting started," says WestJet Encore president Ferio Pugliese in a statement. "The communities that are not part of today's announcement continue to be under consideration as we take delivery of additional aircraft later this year and in the years to come."
More than 30 Canadian cities showed interest in joining the Encore regional network while visiting WestJet's headquarters in June.
