WestJet posted a 9.9% increase in traffic year-over-year in February on a 10.9% rise in capacity.

However, the carrier's load factor fell 0.9 percentage points to 82.7%.

"We celebrated WestJet's 16th birthday this February, flew a record number of guests for the month and also set a new single-day record for guests flown," says WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky.

The carrier's year-to-date results show improvement across all three metrics -- traffic, capacity and load factor.

Since January, WestJet's capacity has improved by 9.7%, traffic has increased by 10.7% and load factors are slightly better by 0.7% compared to the same two months of 2010.
