World Airways has extended its contract with Nigerian cargo carrier Allied Air Cargo for the lease of two Boeing MD-11 freighter aircraft from January 2012.

The aircraft will be operated between Europe and various cities in Africa, said World Airways, which started operating aircraft for Allied Air in October 2008.

"Allied Air Cargo and World Airways have built up a strong commercial relationship over the last three years and I am pleased that we are extending this cooperation with a multiple-year agreement," said Brian Bauer, chief commercial officer for World Airways' parent Global Aviation Holdings.

Allied Air operates four Boeing 727 freighters in addition to the two MD-11Fs leased from World Airways, which is based in Peachtree City, Georgia.
