Xiamen Airlines has trialled new Required Navigation Performance Authorisation Required (RNP AR) procedures at Wuyishan airport.

Boeing Flight Services and Jeppesen worked together with Xiamen Airlines, Wuyishan Airport Authority and the Civil Aviation Administration of China to develop the instrument flying procedures for Xiamen's Boeing 737 fleet.

The airline was able to conduct a trial approach at Wuyishan using RNP AR on 18 December 2012, which Boeing says is the first trial in China by a 737 that makes use of RNP AR.

RNP AR relies on satellite navigation as opposed to ground-based navigational aids to provide a precise flight corridor, which can help to optimise routes and reduce fuel burn while improving on flight safety.
