Training is underway for a group of Xiamen Airlines cadets at the CAE Global Academy in Phoenix, Arizona, per a deal between the domestic Chinese operator and CAE to train roughly 70 pilots over two years.

Graduates will be able to join Xiamen as first officers with commercial pilot licenses (CPL) approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), which certified the Phoenix flight school to train up to 150 Chinese pilots per year. Some Xiamen cadets began training last month.

The Xiamen contract marks the latest pilot provisioning deal for CAE, which already has more than 10 such contracts.

The deal comes as the FAA granted the Canadian simulator manufacturer inspection authorization (IA) approval for six of its e-Learning maintenance training courses.

Approved web-based courses include Boeing 737NG engine ground operations, advanced digital principles, human factors, maintenance diagnostic systems (MDS) and reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM).

FAA also granted IA approval to 89 other CAE maintenance training courses.
