The Xian MA60 has received type certification from the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority, paving the way for the Chinese aircraft to start flying in the African country.
The certification was issued in December after the regulator assessed the design, manufacture and after-service support of the turboprop and determined that they met certification requirements, says Xian Aircraft.
Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows that Eritrea has four MA60s on order, scheduled to be delivered in 2014.
Eritrea is a country in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Sudan to its west, Ethiopia in its south and Djibouti in the east.
The MA60 and its newer model the MA600 have mostly been sold to airline customers in developing countries.
