Fortunately the pilot and his two passengers escaped injury, but the chassis of the machine was badly damaged. Barra then mide a couple of tests on the Maurice Farman and Vidart on the Deperdu.-sin, Paulhan on his triplane being also out. In the aflernxm, Beaumont brought out a lOJ-h.p. Bleriot, but it seemed to be his unluckly day, for in landing after a short flight the mach ne completely cap^iz.d, and the pilot was badly hurt, his injuries including a broken shin bone. The doctors, however, hops to have him up and about in about a month's time. The weather on Saturday I<st was very bad, and none of the machines were seen out of ihe hangars, advantage being therefore taken of the opponuniiy to indulge in a little tuning up. The weather was much better on Sunday, when it is estimated that 30,000 people viaiud Rheims to see the flying. As a matter of fact, this was rather a piiy, as the crowds considerably hampered the work, and it led to an accident which might easily have been much more serious. Prevost on the three-seater Deper- dussin was landing, when he had to turn suddenly to avoid the crowd, and unfoitunately a s ildier was krmcked down and so seriously injured toathedied in the military ho;pitsl nnthe following Disc wheels, which were originated by the Short Bros., have made their appearance on many of the machines entered for the French Military Tests. Tliey have been fitted to the Paulhan and Astra triplanes and to the Deper- dussin monoplane. The above photograph shows the fitting of a new 80-h.p. Anzanl to a machine of the latter type. It is evident that the front upturned extensions of th? skids have proved of little use beyond contributing to the machine's gracefulness of outline, for in this machine they have been done away with. day. The machine was badly smashed, but the pil it and passengers escaped injury. Fischer and Bill on Henry Farman machines, and Renaux and Birra on M mrice Farauns, all made tests, as also did Vidart on the DeperdusM 1, who, however, capsized his nachine in landing. On Monday the weather was bad ngai , so that it was impos ble to continue the tests, but late in the afternoon I'/i vost on Ins Deperdussin n-i 1 Mniucauon the Br.guet each made a good flight. The Colossal * Double Monoplane " which has emanated from the Breguet Workshop for the purpose of upholding the firm's honour in the Military Tests.—This machine, whose appearance was foretold in "Air Eddies " columns, Is furnished with a Gnome engine of 130-h.p. Its weight, with pilot, passengers, and fuel aboard is 2,420 lbs. Although this machine has been designed to lift three pissengers, Breguet is confident of its ability to carry eight. 897
