Sweepstake.—An open sweepstake competition will be held on Wimbledon Common, on Whit Monday, on the Plain, Wimbledon side of the Windmill, at 2.30 p.m. The competition will be for r.o.g. duration machines and the stakes will be divided up into 1st, 2nd and jrd prizes. Entrance, is., payable on the ground. Members of any club will be welcomed, this being a sporting event arranged by special request of the members. International Aero Exhibition.—The bench tests of the model aero motors exhibited at the recent International Aero Exhibition, took place on Saturday, April Mth, at the Ea«t London College, Mile End Road, and Professor J. T. Morris has now been able to give the results of the two motors, which were the only ones out of six entries who competed. The judges are unable to award the prizes as neither fulfilled the conditions laid down, which were : Model aero motor (excluding rubber and spring motors), prize, J~$. The model will be judged on a weight per horse-power basis, the ratio not to exceed S lbs. per horse-power. I he weight is to include all accessories, with fuel, for a minimum run of 2 mins., to be taken on a bench test, and the total weight is not to exceed 16 lbs. The annexed charts will prove very interesting, being the first (we think) yet published or made of model aero motors. Model engine makers will be pleased to hear that as a result of these tests, an article, with charts and tables, will shortly be issued by Professor J. T. Morris, on "The Relation between and the Length of the Simple Fan Brake and the Horsc-powcr which it absorbs at various speeds." These official tests have been carried out by this association on behalf of the Royal Aero Club, which body will, it is hoped, give the prize for another competition for engines. 27, Victory Road, Wimbledon, S.W. VERY realistic is the film seen at the Scala Theatre, of Mr. Hamel and his recent flight from Dover to Cologne. One can almost hear the hum of the engine as he rises from the Dover Aerodrome. Not the least interesting is the series of pictures shown preliminary to the flight, of those who organised the demonstration, for the purpose of drawing attention to the need of a great imperial air fleet, sitting in committee, the arrival of the Bleriot monoplane at Dover, fee. Incidentally, the visit to this charming cinema house gave us the opportunity of seeing, in addition to the delightful coloured moving pictures, which form the major part of the programme, the new sensation " Kinoplastikon." Truly it is a sensation, in which apparently real figures enter from the wings of the stage, sing, dance and act in the normal way, for all the world as if they were real flesh and blood. Yet no screen is used. The figures are " materialised " in the air itself. To elaborate, by further descrip tion, the effect produced is useless. Nothing but seeing can really convince in this case. Therefore do we counsel our readers to pay the Scala Theatre a visit, and come away, like ourselves full of wonder. MAY 10, 1913- LEGAL INTELLIGENCE. The St. Martin's Publishing; Co., Ltd., v. Mann and Grimmer. THIS was an action brought originally by the St. Martin's Publishing Co., Ltd. (the proprietors of FLIGHT) against Messrs. Mann and Grimmer, who are manufacturers of model aeroplanes^ for sums due by the latter in respect of advertisements inserted in FLIGHT. Messrs. Mann and Grimmer counterclaimed for damages for alleged libel in the Journal. The matter came before Mr. Justice Horridge, on the 6th inst., when Mr. M. N. Drucquer (instructed by Messrs. Hicks, Arnold and Mozley) appeared for the St. Martin's Publishing Co., Ltd., and Mr. A. S. Poyser (instructed by Messrs. Torr and Co.) for Messrs. Mann and Grimmer. Mr. Poyser stated that the matter had been arranged between the parties upon terms which included the payment out to the St. Martin's Publishing Co. of the sum claimed by them for advertise ments, which had been paid into Court, and Messrs. Mann and Grimmer withdrew the allegations of any kind which had been made by them against the St. Martin's Publishing Co. Counsel added that he considered that the St. Martin's Co. had met the defendants in a very generous and honourable spirit. Mr. Drucquer confirmed what had been stated by Mr. Poyser, and added that his clients quite admitted that the model aeroplanes made by the defendants were capable of flying, and had, in fact, no intention of wishing to damage the defendants' reputation, and did not intend any of the articles to refer in any way to them. The Judge thereupon ordered the record to be withdrawn upon the terms agreed between the parties, which include the payment of all costs by Messrs. Mann and Grimmer to the St. Martin's Publishing Co., Ltd. ® ® ® ® A Bleriot at the Canaries. THE inhabitants of the Canary Islands had their first sight ot an aeroplane on the 2nd inst., when Leonce Gamier, who has a flying school at Vittoria, in Spain, paid a visit to Las Palmas and made several exhibition flights on his Bleriot monoplane. 9 ® ® ® NEW COMPANY REGISTERED.
