IN the report of the Aircraft Workers' Sports in our lastissue unfortunately the printer let a couple of errors creep M Deral Sir Bindon Blood is, of course, G.C.B., whileMr. Keginald Delpech, who directs the destinies of the inplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd., with such consummate skill, spells his name as it is now printed. CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Basil "johnson, who has beenappointed by the board of directors of Rolls-Royce, Ltd., to be general manager of thecompany. IT was a good idea of those who organised the annualouting of Arnott and Harrison, Ltd., to arrange for a trip up th6 river from Richmond to Chertsey. Fortunately onSaturday last the weather, which at first seemed to be in a capricious mood, stabilised into a glorious day, and theparty, some 170 strong, who indulged in a well-earned and welcome relaxation, had a most enjoyable time. Everythingaown to the smallest item for the co'mfort and enjoyment of tneir employees had been thought of by the heads of thet ri?-YS° that if any Preseut did not enjoy themselves to the lull it was entirely their own fault. During the journey home-ward the party were entertained quite unexpectedly by some excellent flying. A " perfect " day came to a conclu-sion at close upon nine o'clock. AMONG those who, recognising the advantage of laminatedwood construction, have been tackling its problems seriously, is the Robert Temple Manufacturing Co., Ltd., of BrewhouseLane, Putney Bridge Road, S.W. 15. Mr. Temple has for many years been experimenting with various arrangements01 laminated timber, and by bending the fibre of the timber in the direction of the load, without the use of steam or heat, claims to have produced a material that is far stronger than metal, weight for weight. He writes that a recent test showedmat a parachute component made on this system was three ™ej*a? strong as an aluminium component, weight for weight, wmch it has replaced. The process, we understand, does not require skilled labour, and to a large extent it can besatisfactorily carried out by female labour. It is also eco- nOmifT' as onIy the actual amount of material required is used, the work being moulded to shape. This is an im-portant consideration, bearing in mind that the old methods entail 50 to 70 per cent, waste, owing to having to be cut tosnape The process should not be confused with others used ior follow spars, &c, as the Temple Co.'s work embracespractically any shape or form that can be planned out WITH further reference to the note in our last issue re-garding the new development of the Aircraft Construction St' *? ,?peninS offices at Africa House, 44-46, Leadenhallstreet, E.C., the Company have the advantage of the assistance mere of Mr. Ransley S. Thacker, who for the last two or threeyears has been actively engaged in the actual manufacture 01 aircraft parts, tools, &c. The Company have now developedspecial facilities for producing small tools, and any enquiries ot this nature and for A.G.S. parts and aircraft componentsin general will be promptlv handled » ft x m • : • -A--.;;PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED.
