Supplies by Aeroplane. "A BRILLIANT piece of work was performed by the AirService on July 17th and subsequently," says the Morning Post correspondent on the French front. " In the neigh-bourhood of Pourcy, a French battalion found itself cut off from the main body of the French forces. They determinedto hold out, and it was decided to supply them by aeroplanes. A few hours after the decision was reached bread, biscuits,and over two hundred and fifty boxes of preserved beef were dropped among the troops. "Next day the exploit was re-peated, and as the battalion signalled that they were running short of ammunition, quantities of cartridges were droppedtor them. By means of these supplies the battalion was able to put up a desperate resistance while waiting to be relievedby counter-attacks. These succeeded by the evening of Lieut. T. A. The Voluntary Pensions Fund. A PRELIMINARY scheme has now been drawn up for thecontrol of the £3,000,000 Voluntary Pensions Fund now being raised by the Minister of Pensions. The fund will be underthe control of the Minister for Pensions, and will be applied for the benefit of disabled officers and men discharged fromthe Navy, Army and Air Force, their wives, widows, families, or dependants. The main object is to assist such applicantsin establishing themselves in civil life, and applications to this end will have the first claim on the fund.The machinery of the local War Pensions Committees of the Ministry will be used to, investigate the characterof applicants and their fitness to receive help from the f und. 869
