SIDE-WINDS THE GRAHAME-WHITE COMPANY, Ltd., have now organised a very complete and well-equipped Motor Car Repair Depart ment at their extensive factory at Hendon, providing accom modation for over 500 cars. This department is under the direct supervision of Mr. H. P. G. Brakenridge, late of Messrs. Ba ker and Co., and already the department is in full operation, some 100 cars at the present time being renovated. The company has also started a high-class coachbuilding depart ment, while another department is set aside for the produc tion in large quantities of bodies of the taxi-cab type. The Grahame-White Co. has also opened Show Rooms at 12, Regent Street, Pall Mall, under the control of Mr. Leonard Williams, for many years a director of the Brompton Motor Co., who handled the Benz cars in Great Britain. Mr. Williams has taken over the management of the Sales Depart ment. We understand that the firm is also taking up the design and manufacture of a light car. THE staff and employees of Messrs. Arnott and Harrison, Ltd., held their first Social and Dance at the Pavilion Hotel, Wormwood Scrubbs, on the 22nd inst. Commencing with a high tea, the company proceeded to enjoy the entertainment provided. The boys of the firm put up two smart turns in the " A. and H. Minstrels " and " The Jolly Boys " troupe, while the drawing-office staff gave a pierrot sketch. A whistling contest for both sexes provided much amusement; the refrain from " The Policeman's Holiday " was the test-piece, and Mr. F. H. Arnott, who took charge of the proceedings, was attired in the uniform of a member of the force. Mrs. Arnott gave the prizes. Among the other items on the pro gramme which were evidently appreciated were Mr. Hives (The Aircraft Manufacturing Co.), Mrs. Dorothy Knowles, Mr. Robert Sinclair, and Miss Harford. Mr. Harry Taylor (Air Ministry) presided at the piano throughout. A vote of thanks to Mr. Clifford Thompson, the entertainment secretary, was passed in rousing fashion, leaving him in no doubt as to whether his efforts had been appreciated. WE are informed that the name of the firm which has hitherto been known as Sir Joseph Jonas, Colver and Co., the well-known makers of alloy steels for aircraft, of the Continental and Novo Steel Works, Sheffield, has now been changed to Jonas and Colver, Ltd. THE Central Aircraft Co., of 179, High Road, Kilburn, N.W. 6, which has won a considerable measure of fame for excellence of workmanship in aeroplane construction, will shortly be opening a School of Aviation. This new venture will be under the personal supervision and management of Mr. Herbert Sykes, O.B.E., the well-known test pilot, and the training will be carried out on 75 h.p. dual-control " C.A.C." tractor biplanes. Under the able directorship of Mr. R. Cattle, the Central Aircraft Co. have certainly contributed a full share in the work of supplying the R.A.F. with the machines necessary to maintain supremacy in the air, and no doubt the pilots produced by the new school will be as excellent in quality as the machines turned out by the old firm. THE enclosed D.H. 4 biplanes which are used by the Peace delegates when travelling between London and Paris should one day become historic machines, and it is not surprising that Messrs. Adam, Grimakii and Co., Ltd., of Albert Works, Glasshouse Street, Albert Embankment, S.E. It, are proud of the fact that they manufactured the fuselage complete with all interior wood fittings, petrol and oil tank, ammuni tion-boxes and chute for machine gun, together with top wing centre section. They fitted undercarriage and wheels, joy-stick and rudder controls, and also the tail plane and elevating gear. THE Sun Electrical Co., Ltd., writing us in regard to a small paragraph which we inserted last week, drawing atten tion to the charming calendar for 1919 issued by them, say : " In your issue of January 23, you were good enough to insert a notice respecting our calendar. Unfortunately for us, you appear to have a very large circle of readers, with the result that we have been simply inundated with applications for these calendars. It is unfortunate, because the edition of calendars has now been exhausted, and we shall be glad if you will insert a small par. on our behalf inti mating that as far as possible applicants have received a • eopy of the calendar, but z. large number of applicants have necessarily been left over." So will readers please note and accept this as an apology for their applications being unfilled ? These days it is indeed a case of "the early worm," etc. Advisory Committee Reports NUMEROUS applications for technical information having been received since the armistice, the Deputy-Controller of the Technical Department Aircraft Production, Ministry of Munitions, desires it to be generally known that arrange ments are being made for the early publication through H.M. Stationery Office of all technical reports and data. These documents will be " Advisory Committee Reports," but will be issued separately as ready. They will also be published in volume form annually. Arrangements are also being made for the preparation and early publication of a new series of reports and memoranda embodying the information and experience that is already covered by existing reports.
