FEBRUARY 6, IQIQ •MILESTONES" THE SOPWITH MACHINES ljLl?l^^il # ALTHOUGH OUT " Milestones " series are primarily intended to include machines built during the War, we reserve ourselves the privilege of referring, when it seems advisable to do so, to machines built before the outbreak of hostilities. This is sometimes necessary in order to fully grasp the significance biplane. This machine, although built in 1913, has had such an extraordinary effect on aeroplane design in general, and in particular was certainly the beginning of the greatness of the House of Sopwith, that it undoubtedly merits in clusion in this series of articles.
