JANUARY 4, 1923 The undercarriage consists of two " V's " hinged to the end of the centre-section, and supporting, by rubber shock- absorbers, the bent wheel axles coming down from the corners of the fuselage, much after the fashion of the " BAT Bantam." The 180 h.p. Hispano-Suiza engine is mounted as a separate unit in the nose, being attached to the main fuselage by four to the corners of the body. The pilot is seated in front of the wings, and as the nose is swept down considerably he obtains an excellent view forward. The gunner has a cockpit aft of the top plane, and from this position can fire all around, even forward above the propeller. By descending into the fuselage, he can look through a trap door in the floor, for The Farman day bomber is of somewhat un- usual appear- ance. The machine is built almost entirely of metal. .-.;..*•"• bolts only. The petrol-tanks are carried inside the centre- section of the wing, so that pressure petrol feed is required. Lorraine- Dietrich engine, is a tractor biplane with very deep fuselage, so that the top plane as well as the lower is attached direct and it was one of the jokes of the Salon to get unsuspecting friends to touch the metal, after which they promptly jumped back, looked astonished, and somewhat sheepish, then saw the joke and tried to " have " their friends.
