JANUARY 31, 1929 TheWESTLAND WAPITI (.%•:••• View in Erecting Shop. Wapiti fuselage assembly line. The Westland Wapiti with Bristol Jupiter VIII Engine is now inproduction for the Royal Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. The "all-metal" method of construction is designed forrapid production in quantities. The fuselage framework is built up of square section tubing, the joints being made by means of flatflitch plates and steel tubular rivets. The ends of the struts do not "bed" against each other or the longerons, but are allowed a smallclearance, the rivets taking the load. By this means accurate fitting of the ends of the members is obviated, and " repairability" greatlyfacilitated. Throughout the machine, ease of maintenance and inspection has been carefully borne in mind. Other Westland types include the " Widgeon" light 'plane, the " Wizard " high-speed single-seater fighter, etc. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT WORKS (Branch of Petters Limited), Works — YEOVIL, ENGLAND.
