FLIGHT, MARCH 28, 1929 -an.. SEGRAVFS SPEED SUCCESS ACHIEVED WITH NAPIER Aero Engine "Napier engine in irving'Napier Special gave entire satisfaction throughout practice and during world's record run to-day." SEGRAVE Major H. O. D. SEGRAVE, at Daytona Beach on March nth, with his Irving-Napier racing car, fitted with Napier aero engine, similar to that which won the Schneider Trophy in 1927, set up a World's Speed Record on land by covering 1 mile at the average speed of— 231*36 m.p.h. Flight-Lieut. D'Arcy Greig, with a Supermarine seaplane fitted with the same type of Napier aero engine, in November last achieved the highest speed ever attained in the air, namely— 319*5 m.p.h. Napier aero engines were installed in the 4 Supermarine " Southampton " flying boats which flew from England to Australia and back to Singapore. 180,000 engine miles were covered without mechanical trouble, setting up a record of reliability unapproached by any other engine.
