MARCH 28, 1929 21 THE AIRCRAFT ENGINEER SUPPLEMENT TOFLIGHT The Armstrong-Whitworth Wind Tunnel : General View. The rectangular part of the tunnel is 22 ft., and the regenera- tive cone between the rectangular portion and the fan is 24 ft. long. The rectangular portion has a slight taper of 18 mins. and this eliminates the static pressure gradient. The Armstrong-Whitworth Wind Tunnel : Propeller and Motor. The tunnel is supported by structural steel work. The working portion is made up of pitch pine. The regenerative cone is made up of three-ply wood instead of the more usual sheet steel in order to reduce drumming to a minimum.
