FLIGHT, JULY 31, 1931 AIRCRAFT COMPANIES' STOCKSAND SHARES FLUKING the whole of July the stock and share markets*~* remained under the influence of developments in the international financial situation, but in many cases quota-tions are higher on balance for the month. A fair amount of business has passed in the shares of aircraft and asso-ciated companies, and prices have moved in favour of holders. Imperial Airways responded to the generaltendency with a satisfactory recovery from the low price touched in June ; market men are not inclined to forecastthe results for the past year. Fetters ordinary and prefer- ence have come in for more attention. In each case therehas been an improvement in price on balance, despite the recession in profits from £40,917 to £35,334, and the" cut " of 1 per cent, in the dividend to 6 per cent. The market was favourably impressed by the results in view ofthe conditions ruling, and, notwithstanding the cautious tone of the chairman's address regarding the current year'sprospects, the shares maintained their improvement. The company is shortly making important additions to itsrange of engine manufactures, from which increased busi- ness is anticipated when trade improves. Both Kolls-Koyceand Fairey Aviation have been firm in response to the better market conditions ; they may shortly come in formore attention in view of the forthcoming Schneider con- test. A market slip points out that although FaireyAviation's profits were £335,000 for the past two years, only £70,000 has been distributed in dividends. Therehas been an improvement in D. Napier & Son 5s. ordinary to 7s. 6d. Although the interim dividend is not due to beannounced until October, it is already being discussed. It is suggested that if the rate be maintained, a good casecould be made out for a higher price for the shares. For the past year there was a large margin of profits overthe 15 per cent, dividend, 27 per cent, being actually earned on the ordinary capital. De Havilland were well Name. Class. Serck Radiators were lower at Birmingham on fears of areduced distribution for the year to July 31. Birmingham Aluminium Castings' year closed on the same date ; ineach case the report is due to be submitted in October or November. PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED Royal Air Force Quarterly. July, 1931.
