FLIGHT, DECEMBER 11, 1931 16 cases of complaint that could be traced to inspection. That, he said, was proof positive that the system, as a system, was successful. The number of approved in-spectors in the Northern Office employed by firms was now approximately 290, as against only nine employed by theA.I.D. Of the 290 about 85 were on full time. Speaking of the future, Col. Outram said that therewould be an increased use of the highest grades of material. New aircraft developments would come hard upon steelfirms, and the inspectors' jobs would become more and more difficult ; but it was only because the firms hadalways provided the required material that British aircraft and British engines had become pre-eminent. Because oftheir superiority of design and workmanship British air- craft and engines could always demand a higher price, THE ROY; London Gazette, December 1, 1931 General Duties Branch The follg. are granted short-service commns. as Pilot Officers on probationwith effect from and with seny. of Nov. 17 :—F.
