FLIGHT, JULY 5, 1934 Germari'Chine se Factory It is reported that a tentative agree-ment has been reached between the Nanking Government and the JunkersCo. for the construction of a Sino- German aeroplane factory in China, ata cost of 3,000,000 yuan, of which two- thirds are to be borne by the ChineseGovernment. Copenhagen to Faroe Islands A Danish Hawker " Dantorp," fittedwith an 800 h.p. Armstrong-Siddeley " Leopard " engine, recently accom-plished a flight of 1,000 miles from Copenhagen to Faroe Is. in 9 hours'flying. It was manned by Capt. Grandjean, Lt. Muenter and wireless-mechanic G. Rasmussen. They left the Naval Air Station at 3.30 a.m.,landed at Thisted, Jutland, to take in fuel, and proceeding landed at Tveraa,in Trangisvaag, at 3 p.m., having encountered strong headwinds untilpassing the Shetlands. Aircraft Registrations The Joint Aviation Advisory Com- mittee of Lloyd's Register and the British Corporation Register announce a total of 1,148 registered machines up to June 15 last, made up as follows (foreign, included in the total, being given in brackets): —Privately-owned male, 463 (21) ; ditto, female, 47 (5) agents, 58 (4) ; constructors, 111 clubs, 91 ; non-classified, 3 (1) ; busi- ness (non-aviation), 38 (2) ; aerial work, 4 ; taxi, school and joyriding, 281 (5) ; Imperial Airways, Ltd., 39 ; National Flying Services, Ltd., 13. Reversible Propellor Mr. Seth Hart, of Los Angeles, hasproduced a variable pitch propellor which can be adjusted through 360degrees—giving even reverse thrust. In ManchoukuoTwo Fokker passenger monoplanes have been built, under licence, by theManchurian Aviation Co. These are the first aircraft ever built inManchoukuo, and are constructed almost entirely of local materials. Theengines are of the Japanese Nakajima " Kotobuki " air-cooled type of 460h.p Italian Awards For the encouragement of sport, theHead of the Italian Government personally awarded gold, silver andbronze medals to 142 winners in the Via dei Trionfi recently. Amongthose given for aviation, were gold medals to Renato Donati, for hisworld's height record ; to Carina Negrone, Eng. Fario Niclot, and Capt.John Zappetta, for various class height records. Faster Air France As a result of wind tunnel experi-ments it has been possible to obtain an increase of speed in the " GoldenClipper " (Wibault-Penhoet 282 T12) type used by Air France on theLondon-Paris and other airways. The principal structural modifications arethe addition of spats on the wheels and the cowling-in of the nose engine. Anet increase in speed of 5 m.g.h. is claimed. The modifications are notbeing made in existing machines, but are incorporated in new types asdelivered—two of which are already in service on the London-Paris route. HELPING HAND : Mr. Hillman uses his Rolls-Royce as a Tractor to bring out the M. 8C S.A.F. Avro 642 on to the tarmac.
