MAY 9, 1935. FLIGHT. 5" "CULVERINS" FOR FLYING BOATS This year experiments will be made in trying out Napier 720-h.p. heavy-oil compression-ignition " Culverin " engines in a large flying boat. If these experiments are successful, the use of C.I. engines should materially increase the range of large flying boats, and long range is of the utmost importance if this class of aircraft is to fulfil its function of connecting British seaplane stations overseas. Civil flying may also benefit materially from the tests by the Royal Air Force. FAR EAST FLIGHT DINNER The annual dinner of the officers of the Far East Flight will be extended to include those officers of the Royal Air Force who have served in Singapore or Hong Kong. The dinner will be held on Friday, May 17, in London, and, if numbers permit, at the Royal Air Force Club. Officers who intend to be present should forward their names to Sqn. Ldr. D. V. Carnegie, A.F.C., Headquarters, Air Defence of Great Britain, Royal Air Force, Uxbridge, as early as possible in order that the necessary arrangements may be put in hand. KILLED BY AIRSCREW F/O. M.
