Tool Steels TWO E.S.C. publications—a handbook and a leaflet respec tively—of interest to works managers have recently been issued under the titles of " Tool Steel " and "Files and Rasps." Home from the Antipodes MR. A. C. FALL, engineer to British Timken, Ltd., Bir mingham, arrived back in England last week after a lengthy tour of Australasia. He left England in December, 1934, to superintend the first application of anti-friction bear ings to the Queensland Government Railways, and during the past twelve months he has lectured to many engineering societies in Australia and New Zealand. Alloy Specialists' Dividend IT is announced that the directors of James Booth and Co. (1915 , Ltd., of Birmingham, the well-known alloy specialists, have decided to recommend a dividend of 15 per cent., less tax, on the ordinary shares for the year ended December 31. The annual meeting, to be held on March 12, will be followed by an extraordinary meeting to increase present authorised capital to enable the directors to offer to ordinary shareholders, at a premium of £1 per share, one new ordinary share for each five ordinary snares held by them. Pneumatic Tools THE range of pneumatic tools for aircraft duties which Broom and Wade, Ltd., of High Wycombe, have been developing during the past year has now been considerably augmented, and full data regarding ten different types of tools, each made in various sizes, is given in a catalogue which they have recently issued. These tools include hammers of various patterns for riveting, caulking, chipping, etc.; multi-vane instruments for drilling, nut running and screw setting; multi-vane grinders; and' polishers and sanders for work on large surfaces. Small dimensions and low weight are a feature of the majority of these tools. Problems of Metallic Wear THE Institute of Metals is arranging a special meeting to discuss the subject of "Metallic Wear." It will take place in London on March 10, in connection with the Institute's annual general meeting. The discussion will be opened by Dr. H. W. Brownsdon (member of the council) with a paper reviewing some of the major factors which the subject involves. Members of other institutions—including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Naval Architects, the Institution of Automobile Engineers, the Iron and Steel In stitute, and the Royal Aeronautical Society—have been in vited to attend the meeting and to take part in the discussion. Short Staff Celebrates SOME 150 members of the staff of Short Bros., Ltd., recently travelled to London for their annual dinner, which followed a visit to a theatre. In proposing "The Firm," Mr. A. Gouge, director and general manager, thanked those present for their loyal support during the vear and paid a warm tribute to the managing director, Mr. Oswald Short, who, in his reply, said that it was pleasing to note that, with the rapid progress in design now taking place, the name of Short Bros, was still in the forefront and all new designs from their works were watched with the keenest interest throughout the world. Among those present were also Mr. F. S. Short; Mr. J. Lankester Parker, chief test pilot; Capt. A. Maver, London office representative; Mr. F. Drurv, cashier; Mr. C.
