SUPPLEMENT ii. FLIGHT. ADVERTISEMENTS. MARCH 19, 1936. STAINLESS STEEL (55 TONS SQ. INCH. MAX. STRESS) FOR MACHINED FITTINGS Use Firth-Vickers S.80 Stainless Steel for all high tensile machined fittings such as bolts and nuts, fork ends, sockets, tube plug ends, wing roots, eyebolts, amphibian and retractable undercarriage parts. This steel replaces 2 S.2, 3S.11 and D.T.D. 188, which are not corrosion resisting, and supersedes the 12% chromium type of non-corrodible steel to specifications S.61 and S.62. Whilst it is permissible to weld Firth-Vickers S.80 steel, providing the part is subsequently heat-treated, the practice is not recommended.
