The longitudinal stringers are continuous and are joggled into the frames. The floor beam supports take the form of girders of tubular construction. the corners and connects them with light-metal panels \A corrugated form. The rectangular-section box thus formed is stabilised by tubes forming diamond-shaped trusses in side the box, as shown in the sketches. The resultant wing spar is not only a good beam fcr taking bending stresses, but the stabilised box is excellent for resisting torsion loads. It is assisted in this by the sheet metal covering over the front portion. The trailing edge portion of the wing, on the other hand, would in any case be rather too shallow to form an efficient struc ture member, and so Mr. Lloyd uses fabric covering over this portion, the method of attaching the edge of tne fabric being shown in a sketch. An examination of the sketches will reveal at once to the aircraft engineer the reason for Mr. Lloyd's use of Z-sections in the spar corners: the edges to be riveted are readily accessible and there are no awkward corners into which the dolly cannot be inserted. it •-••: .-.
