76 FLIGHT, JANUARY 21, 1937. British Oxygen Company's portable tyre-inflation cylinder '' topping-up '' one of Syrinx's tyres. Incidentally, nitrogen is coming into favour for tyre inflation, and the B.O.C. claim many advantages for it. British Oxygen Co., Ltd., Thames House, Millbank, Westminster, London, S.W.I (31). B.O.C. equipment for welding and tyre inliution, as used by many aerodromes and airports in this country- and the Empire, form the chief exhibits on the company's stand. Actual plant on view comprises the port able oxy-acetylene welding outfits models A and B the model O outfit for battery re pairs, and various cutting outfits. The last- named, in common with the model B outfit, are shown complete with trolleys. Brown Bros. (Aircraft), Ltd., Great Eastern Street, London. E.C.2 (Stand 26). Here is displayed a very representative selection of equipment, including Black and Decker and Desotitter electric drills, the former on stands; Black and Decker kits ol tools, tool chests and reamers; Ingersoll- Kand compressor; Mercer cylinder gauge; Black and Decker bench grinder; Epco high- lift jack; De Yilbiss spray gun; the Mario] lamp; battery testers; steel storage bins; and the Miser mobile pedestal light. Experts of Brown Brothers' lighting engi neering sen-ice are in attendance to give advice on lighting schemes for hangars and workshops, and for aerodrome and general floodlighting. An item of interest also marketed by this firm is an adjustable stand designed for sup porting wings or tails. It has interchange able heads of various shapes and micrometer adjustment. V. L. Churchill and Co., Ltd., Walnut Tree Walk, Kennington, London, S.E.ll (Stand 44). On this stand is an interesting range of general and precision equipment particularly suited to airport operators. It includes the 44U valve refacer, a precision machine which is supplied as standard equipment to the Royal Air Force. There are also the 37F. ten-ton mechanical press for pressing on or off bearings, light straightening work, etc., and the VLC. 71B bench grinder fitted with two 7-in. wheels, a sound general-purpose machine. Other exhibits include electric and air- operated tools for valve lapping, piston-ring expanders and groove cleaners, feeler gauges, tool boxes, etc. Desoutter Bros., Ltd., The Hyde, Hendon, London, N.W.9 (Stand 38). Desoutter Bros, show their wide range of pneumatic and electric portable tools. There is the drill gun range—little one-hand tools with a big capacity^—a -|%-in. drill weighing only 2I lb., a i-in. capacity model weighing only >J lb., and a -j%-in. capacity drill weigh ing only 3 lb. Then there are corner drills for drilling in inaccessible positions, electric and pneumatic screw guns, which make the onerous task of screwdriving a speedy production job, a new high-power portable electric grinder, and bench and pedestal-type tool grinders. Equipment and Engineering Co., Ltd., 2 and 3, Norfolk Street, London, W.C.2 (Stand 11). Featured on this stand is the Magnaflux crack detector, which should have a number of applications in aircraft manufacture, par ticularly in the sphere of engines. The steel part to be tested is painted over with a special fluid and laid across the poles of a powerful magnet, and even the finest crack at once shows up clearly as a black line. A demagnetiser, for use afterwards, forms part of the equipment. Another E. and E. speciality shown is the Simplex aircraft overhaul jack, and a third interesting item is a rotary hand broom for speedy cleaning-up of workshop floors. / Kurt Eriach, Ltd., 2, Melior Street, London Bridge, S.E.I (Stand 20). On this stand is a comprehensive range of " Volspray " spray-painting equipment. The most popular model, the 1A/2, will un doubtedly attract attention by reason of the performances claimed and by its compact and pleasing appearance. The whole outfit weighs only about 30 lb., operates off an A.C. or D.C. electric light point, and is fitted with a full-sized spraying pistol. The businesslike look of the larger " Vol spray " models, particularly the 11/ZWJ and II/ZES, will also attract the eye of the visitor to the Exhibition. The manner in which the manufacturers keep abreast of the requirements of this fast progressing indus try can be gathered from a chat with one of their technical representatives for aviation who will be in attendance, and no one should miss the superb scale models of famous types of aeroplanes made by Mr. V. M. Woodason, of Heston, and spray- finished with the " Yolspray." Felco Hoists, Ltd., 17, Victoria Street, Lon don, S.W.I (Stand 24). On this stand will be found " Felco " all- steel triple gear chain blocks and runways. These are made entirely in high quality steel, all castings having been superseded by solid steel parts; consequently, they are very robust, yet light and compact. Headroom has been reduced to a minimum and hand- wheels are all heavy-gauge steel stampings. Secondly, there is the " Ropelock " rope pulley hoist. This, as the name implies, is of the self-sustaining type, the locking action being simple yet positive. All pulleys are fitted with grease lubricators, ensuring long life and easy working. All hoists and chain blocks, it is stated, are tested to 50 per cent, overload working and 100 per cent, overload static, a test cer tificate being issued. Grimston Electric Tools, Ltd., 138, Lever Street, London, E.C.I (Stand 6). Drills and grinding equipment constitute this company's display, which consists of the following items: Portable electric drills and grinding machines; flexible-shaft grinding, sanding, and polishing machines, both single and multi-speed types; " Duplex " combina tion electric drills and flexible-shaft grinders; " Electriska " multi-speed i-in. bench and column drills; bench and pedestal tool grinders, with and without twist drill grind ing attachments; and precision internal and external tool-post grinders. Thos. P. Headland, Ltd., Pearman Street, Westminster Bridge Road, London, S.E.I (Stand 40). Thos. P. Headland are exhibiting pre cision tools for engine reconditioning work, including the Kwikway hydro wrench for equal tightening of studs; Microhone multi purpose bench tool; valve refacer; electric drills; dope sprayers, etc. The Dzus cowl fastener is being shown and attention is drawn to the stocks of approved steels, bolts and outs and other A.C.S. parts and also aerodrome, workshop and machine tools generally. Ernest Lake, Ltd., Bishop's Stortford (Stand 17). The aircraft workshop equipment shown on Stand 17 comprises jacking trestles, which are supplied in ten different sizes; ta» trestles; fuselage stands; in-line engine stands, including a " Gipsy " model; radial engine stands; riveting tools; various jacks, etc.; and an electric vulcaniser. Oil supplies for a D.H. 86 from a Mobiloil aerodrome unit.
