ADVERTISEMENTS. FEBRUARY 25, i937. "BRISTOL" FEATURES. Air-cooled Em TAPPET ASSEMBLY Nine pairs of case-hardened tappets in phosphor bronze guides are mounted radially round the cam chamber. The tappets are hollow and are slotted at their inner ends to receive the case- hardened rollers, which are mounted upon hardened pins and floating phosphor bronze bushes. During operation all the components are completely immersed in oil spray. In the case of tappets for the lower four cy linders, the possibility of oil leakage is pre vented by a simple system of oil holes which collect the surplus oil and drain it back into the crankcase. The cam and tappet gear assembly is ex tremely robust and reliable, and together with the cam assembly is the outcome of many years' use with standard production engines.
