4 FLIGHT. ADVERTISEMENTS. APRIL 29, 1937, THIS ENGINE AMHERST VILLIERS MAYA THIS PISTON THISl IREPORT SJ& " All parts were found to be in excellent condition with no trace of wear. The original 1° Taper of the piston rings was still intact. In regard to the up and down clearance, the rings had all remained as fitted . . . gaps had increased not more than '002", clearly showing adequate lubrication under all conditions. The clean condition of the engine was remarkable, partly due to the efficient piston and ring combination, a tribute to the fine work manship and material of the parts supplied by Messrs. Hepworth & Grandage." The above is abstracted from a report published in ''Flight*' on the 22nd February, 1937, after a test of 100 hours' running time, following which the engine was stripped down and submitted to Air Ministry inspection.
