A limited number of commissions in the Reserve of Air Force Officers are offered to young un married men who have attained the age of 18 but who have not attained the age of 25, and who arc approximately up to the educational standard required for the School Certificate of the Oxford and Cambridge Schools Examination Board, are of good physique and able to devote approxi mately one year's continuous whole time attend ance for training. Selected candidates will be appointed in the Reserve of Air Force Officers for a period of 5 years, and after the first year's continuous training they will be liable to attend for not more than 24 days' training annually. They will receive pay while under training and in addition they will "receive a retaining fee of £25 for each year's service after the first. The next course is due to commence in May, J 987, and intending candidates should make early applieation (preferably on a postcard) to the Secretary, Air Ministry (VS.7(E)), Kings- way, W.C. 2, for particulars. Public Appointments AIR MINISTRY—AERONAUTICAL IN SPECTION DIRECTORATE, V ACANCIES exist for ENGINEERS. Candi dates are required to have served apprentice ship or pupilage with engineering firm, and to have had such technical education as will enable them to read working drawings, use micrometer and vernier, and to understand the principles of material testing. Age limits 21 to 50 years, except that candidates over 50 years of age will be considered if they have had engineering in spection experience. Successful candidates will in most instances be required to undergo a period of training not exceeding 6 months in aeronautical engineering inspection. It is anticipated that the appointments will be for a period of at least two years. Salary during training at the rate of £3 10s. weekly, and will be increased on satisfactory completion of training to £246 a year, rising by annual increments of £12 if service is satisfactory to £337 a year. Subsistence allowance will be payable during period of training to married men who normally reside outside the area of the training centre.
