MAY 27, 1937. ADVERTISEMENTS. FLIGHT. 21 Panel showing Meters and Switch. Already Standardised by a number oF Constructors SMITHS 1 ransmitter. fflap indicator This instrument is a development of the Smith Electrical Fuel Contents Gauge, and is designed for operation on 12 or 24 volt systems, using the patented electrical transmission which makes the installation independent of change in battery voltage. The installation consists of a transmitter fitted near the flap and connected to it by a lever. The movement of the flap is transmitted to a meter fitted on the dashboard. * This meter is calibrated to read degrees of flap movement. The Pilot, therefore, has a permanent indication of the position of his flaps at any moment. As this instrument is only used during take-off and landings, an 'on-off' switch is usually fitted in the circuit, with a warning lamp to show when it is in operation.
