FEATURES OF 1937 "BRISTOL" MERCURY AND PEGASUS ENGINES v14> LUBRICATION SYSTEM PRESSURE PUMP I SCAVENGE PUMP Oil is distributed to every moving surface by means of ducts, holes, channels and splash, ensuring adequate lubrication even under continuous full throttle. The system is efficient and comprehensive, and is arranged on the dry sump principle with quickly removable gear-type pressure and scavenge pumps—the latter with a 30% greater capacity to ensure complete and prompt removal of all circulated oil. A spring-loaded relief valve maintains correct oil pressure. Independent oil filters, readily removed, are provided in both circuits, and a renewable felt filter is incorporated in the return oil pipe and located on the bulkhead. The wBristol" High Initial Oil Pressure device is included in the lubrication system, and is a feature of the utmost importance to high-performance civil and military aircraft.
