000 The first Gipsy Major engine to have completed 1,000 hours under the new recommended overhaul schedule has been stripped and examined by the de Havilland Aircraft Company. "TotbJl to fit the engine for a further duty period of 1,000 hours without inter- mediate examination This includes £5 8s. Id. for valve guides, gaskets, washers, etc., damaged in dismantling. The general condition of the engim upon dismantling was excellent On most of the components thi wear was nil—dimensions were stil within the manufacturing limits o new parts. Only the following components needed to be replacec on account of their condition aftei 1,000 hours of service :— 2 main bearings. 4 big-end bearings. 3 exhaust valves. 1 cooling baffle. 1 oil-pipe nipple. 1 magneto rocker arm, including bush. 1 fixed and 1 adjustabl contact point. 2 magneto ball-bearing8 1 carburetter tickler val" and knob. 1 H.T. lead (lor aPPear' ance sake).
