624 FLIGHT JUNE 23, 1938. THE INDUSTRY (CONTINUED) Hangar Construction TTXPONENTS ot the Cliisarc system of building const rue- •*-* tion, Architectural Services, Ltd., have recently moved to more convenient premises at 3-5-7, Old Queen Street, London, S.W 1 The Chisarc system is particularly applicable where large unsupported spans of roof are required, and among aircraft hangars built in this way is one at Doncaster Airport. "British and Foreign Aviation" THE formation ot a company with a nominal quarter-millioncapital, under the title of " British and Foreign Avia- tion," was announced last week. The objects are stated as, inter alia, to acquire not less than '90 pei cent, of the issued share' capital of Olley Air Service, Ltd. and Air Commerce, Ltd ; to adopt certain agree- ments between Olley Air Service, Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen and others ; and to operate air services and aerodromes and manu- iacture, deal in and repair aircraft. Directors ate R. P. W. Adeane, Capt. G. P. Olley, Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Ouen, Earl Amherst, J. W. S. Comber, H. C. Milmar, K. M, Hayes, J, 5. Wills and L. H. Stace. No registered office is specified. - " •;. * .' .. ' • The Flexible-shaft Mfg. Co. IN a recent paragraph dealing with the incorporation of theFlexible Shaft Manufacturing Co., of Town Road, Edmon- ton, London, N.y, it was not, perhaps, made clear that during the last eighteen months thousands of pounds' worth of new machine-tool equipment has been installed in the company's own works. Their activities as manufacturers of ftexible- jhaft machinery are now extended to general engineering work." They are working to capacity on Air Ministry, Admiralty and \\*a" Office contracts.., , :._„..-. ; - . Ltd.-, -for- their new ,'.'- Tecalemtter " metering equipment for the supply of fuels, lubricating oils and other" liquids. Tecalemeters are designed for use on refuelling tenders, bulk storage equipment, fuel mixing plant, and so forth. •••••. Perusal of the very informative brochure issued in connection with the Tecalemetcr reminds one that super-accurate measure-, went of liqii'tdi \> t merely a matter of pumping the stuff into a gallon; measure and out again, stance, For in-,there is the matter of temperature.! With petrol and similar fuels an expansion or contraction figure of 0.11 per cent., per degree C., must he taken into account. All Tec ale m eters, therefore, are supplied with t h e r m o s t a tic compensation un- less otherwise specified. Again, air and water must be com- pletely elimin- ated if the fuel is to be measured with dead accur- acy, and a range of suitable e 1 i m i n a tors is available for use with the equip- ment. Without going deeply into the construction of the instrument, it may be said thai the Tecalemeter has four metering cylinders swept by radially disposed pistons operating the centrally disposed INFORMAL PORTRAIT of Mr. Hubert Scott-Paine, chair- man and managing director of the British Power Boat Company^ which, as most Fligh! readers know, supplies large numbers of its specialised craft to the Air Ministry. The organisation as recorded last week, has recently been incor- porated as a limited company with a privately placed •-->-» . share-capital of ^750,000. crankshaft which actuates whatever type of recording unit: may be fitted. The crankcase is permanently oil filled. • Mounted.on.the crankshaft are a rotating disc valve and self- accomin.oda.ting seal. There seems to be no limit to the purposes to which the Tecalemeter is adaptable. With the use of a pre-set device,, it can be used for-fully automatic blending of liquids in pre- determined proportions. Again, a single meter and pipe-line,- with "Tn-Ex", indicator, will .show at a glance the state.of • a balk storage system, with deliveries in and out and present- stock in tank. . . , Two main types of Tecalemeter are available, one a very' freeTrunning type to deal with.gravlty>fed supply and the .other-V to handle .pumped liquid... • -.. •;•. . . • • •: Full details are obtainable from the Meter and Fuel Handling.
