AUGUST II, 1938. ADVERTISEMENTS. FLIGHT. 7 m €» «SX f?K «S5 «SX fSK «SJ CSX «SK €% ex fa «a «SK fa fX fa «SK «SK fa fa fa fa fa fa fj£ Tribute To the Empire Flying Boat Short Bros, have great pleasure in acknowledging the following appreciation by AMERICAN AVIATION of the 15 May, '38: ^T ' We've been on the receiving end of a lot of subtle insinuations that the British were far behind in commercial aviation, but we can say in all candor that one of the great experiences in flying scheduled air transport lines was the New York bound flight on the (IMPERIAL flying-boat) CAVALIER. It is not a matter of being unpatriotic . . . but the, British really have something ! ' Imperial is four or five years ahead £\ ' If one looks at the Bermuda service from the viewpoint of the passenger ' #T ' . . . . passenger comfort and service which should be the envy of every American operator ' #T ' The first view inside is breathtaking . . . The eyes first catch the great length of the cabin. Instead of one long cabin, there are four . . . three of them on as many different levels, connected by two or three steps . . . the whole sight is most impressive to put it mildly ' #T ' Second impression is the great height of the interior. It removes completely the feeling of being crowded. Psychologically, it is a vision into the future . . . one doesn't just sit at a window. One moves about in a luxury of space. There are no narrow aisles and one goes to the smoking lounge not only to smoke, but to have a drink ' #T ' Then there is that indefinable something about British service which is ever-present. The British steward . . . was well trained, polished, quietly efficient, and added some thing to the psychological effect of the trip. . . . Unquestionably,- the British have carried Over into their air services the same type of passenger service they have on the sea. . . .' THE CAVALIER WAS DESIGNED AND RUILT' BY SHORT BROS ROCHESTER ENGLAND m am ?§» ^^ ^^
