JANUARY 12, 1939. ADVERTISEMENTS. FLIGHT. 23 A YEAR IN RETROSPECT" Bedford School of Flying Barton Airport, Beds. London 35 miles, Bedford 12 miles, Luton 3 J miles, 62 buses a day, 45 mins. from St. Pancras. 'The first and only subsidised Flying School in Bedfordshire. First and only School operating a Civil Air Guard Unit in Bedfordshire. From one machine, one Instructor and one Licensed Engineer twelve months ago the School has now five machines, three Instructors and three Licensed Engineers. From 5 hours 55 minutes flown a month this has increased in the same time to a maximum of 301 hours a month. As many as three "A" Licences a day have been obtained and, despite weather conditions, one licence a week has been averaged over the last four months. Three Pi'/ots applied for Instructors' courses. Two have finished their course, qualified and been found employment. Lectures on Navigation, Aircraft and Engines take place bi-weekly. Every Civil Air Guard applicant who has passed medically and presented himself for flying has flown. Many have cbtained their licences. We are Air Ministry approved 705 and A.N.D. We hove been ana are continually carrying out overhauls and C. of A. This record has not been achieved by chance. The experience of our Management commenced with Britain's first provincial Flying School. Civil Ah Guards may transfer from long waiting lists and commence flying with us immediately. We now invite applications (or : C.A.G., "B" Licences, Instructors' and Ground Engineers' Courses, to D. M. K. Marendaz, General Manager. for R.A.F. officers to find the time to deal with the question of kit. But at our Regent Street shop we have a department that exists especially to help them. And for the convenience of officers who are unable to come up to Town, a repre sentative calls regularly at all R.A.F. Depots and Schools throughout the country. If you wish, he will visit you at any time by appointment.
