FLIGHT ADVERTISEMENTS. JANUARY 26, 1939. PIONEERS Of MODERN AVIATION S.F CODY.—On May 14th, 1909, flew to the height 01 3,600 ft. and later in the same year inaugurated passenger flying by making five separate trips of two miles distance with different passengers. In 1912, he won the Michelin cross country prize in the " Cody Cathedral," a machine which he himself constructed. Shell quickly realised the possibilities in aviation and working alongside these pioneers, set out to develop flying. They improved aviation fuel and lubricants and made them available in out-of-the-wa/ places. Today, Shell still keeps pace with aviation and offers the Shell Carnet system which enables the modern pilot to obtain Shell supplies and service on credit at any Shell station throughout the world.
