FEBRUARY 23. 1939- ADVERTISEMENTS. FLIGHT. 7 III * III * III * III * III * III * III * III * III * III * THE mem mm In a recent issue of Aero-Digest—one of the leading aeronautical newspapers in America—Mr. Cy Caldwell, an experienced commentator, paid the following tribute to the service given by Imperial Airways WHAT PASSENGERS WANT The English air traveller demands four things: comfort, tobacco, drink, food. Imperial Airways provides all four, with superlatively fine service, not only on the Paris run but also on the Empire boats As we took off from Croydon the stewards handed around wine lists; everybody ignored them and ordered Scotch and soda or bottles of ale—wines are only for banquets, or foreigners . . . but what helped most was a sight of the sun, the first glimpse in two weeks .... By this time hardy Britons were eating Consomme Julienne, fricassee of chicken, roast fillet of veal, ham and egg salad, and cheese— Gorgonzola, Cheddar, or Cheshire The stewards moved about with the grace and speed of panthers—the only things I saw in England that moved faster were Spitfires and Hurricanes In slightly less than an hour and a half everyone had been filled up with something, the dishes and glasses were whisked away, nearly everyone was smoking, and we were gliding down to Le Bourget. . .. I was sorry to get out; it had been like sitting in a comfortable friendly club. It is the English genius for being human and under standing with air travellers that makes Imperial Airways one of the best-liked services in the world. This is not only my impression; several other travellers, mostly Americans, also felt the same way IMPERIAL AIRWAYS Imperial Airways Ltd., Airway Terminus, Victoria, S.W.I Telephone: Victoria 2323 (Day and Night), or travel agents *il * III * III * III * III * III * III * III * III * III
