Public Appointments IR MINISTRY. D IRECTOR-GENERAL of Civil Aviation. APPLICATIONS are Invited for Appointment as Air Traffic Control Officers, Grade III, at a salary, when fully trained, of £350 rising by annual increments of £18 to £500 a year; while under training salary at the rate of £253/10 a year will be paid together with sub sistence allowances in certain cases of married men. CONSIDERABLE Flying Experience is Essen tial, and candidates should have a know ledge of air navigation and air legislation pre ferably to the standard of the pilots " B" licence; a knowledge of air line operational organisation will be an asset. CANDIDATES Should Have Passed Their 25th Birthday, but not have attained their 45th birthday on 1st April, 1939; exceptionally, the department is prepared to consider applications from candidates with special qualifications (e.g., possession of a pilot's " B " licence) who are between the ages of 22 and 25. SELECTED Candidates will be Required to I'ndergo a Course of Training in Control Officer's Duties for a Period of About Three to Four Months, and upon satisfactory com pletion of training will be posted to a civil aerodrome in the L'nited Kingdom for duties in a control Tower, where they will be responsi ble for rendering control tower and navigational assistance to aircraft. A PROPORTION of the Posts are Established and Pensionable, and successful candidates may be considered for posts on the permanent establishment if and when vacancies occur. CIVILIAN Instructors Required; vacancies exist for civilian fitter, metal aircraft rigger, carpenter rigger at an initial rate of pay of £4 a week inclusive, increasing to £4/5 on the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of one month, and thereafter by annual incre ments of 2/6 a week to £4/12/6 a week. fTlHE Necessary Qualifications are:— FITTER Instructors Must be Capable of Lecturing and of Demonstrating the Theory of the Internal Combustion Engine and of Undertaking Instruction in Dismantling and Erecting Engines, aero engine experience and use of precision tools are essential. M ETAL Aircraft Rigger Instructors Must be Capable of Lecturing and of Demonstrat ing the working of light metal tubes and plates as used in airframe construction; knowledge of the rigging of airframes is required; carpenter rigger instructors must be capable of lecturing and demonstrating the repair of wooden air frames; knowledge of the rigging of airframes is necessary. A PPLICATIONS Should be Addressed to the Air Officer Commanding No. 24 (Training) Group, Royal Air Force, Halton, Aylesbury, Bucks, giving particulars as to previous experi ence, age, etc; suitable applicants will then be required to attend at the nearest Royal Air Force trade testing centre for the necessary trade test and medical examination.
